Choosing your account type
Individual or Business — what the choice changes, and why Business is not open yet.
The first question sign-up asks is How will you use Fuzopay? Your answer sets which features you get and which verification path you follow.
The two options
Individual
Get paid, save in dollars, and send money as yourself. Best for freelancers, remote workers, and people paid across borders.
Verification: government ID and a selfie. Usually takes minutes.
Choose this if the money is yours personally — even if you invoice clients, work through platforms, or call yourself a sole trader. What matters is whose name the funds are in, not whether you run a business in the everyday sense.
Business
Receive and send funds in your business's name. Best for registered companies, startups, and teams.
Verification: company documents plus an owner ID check.
Choose this only if the funds belong to a registered legal entity — a company with its own registration number, its own bank relationships, and its own name on invoices.
Important. Business accounts are marked Coming soon and cannot be selected yet. Only individual accounts are open today.
Not sure which one?
The sign-up screen gives the short version:
Choose Individual for personal earnings, or Business for funds owned by a registered company.
The test is ownership. Ask yourself who legally owns the money arriving:
| Situation | Account type |
|---|---|
| Freelance client pays you by name | Individual |
| Platform payout to you personally | Individual |
| You are a sole trader with no separate legal entity | Individual |
| Payments made out to a registered company you own | Business |
| Funds belonging to a startup, agency, or team | Business |
Getting this wrong is not a small formality. Verification checks the account holder against the documents you provide, so a mismatch between the account type and the real owner of the funds causes a review to stall or fail.
How the choice is saved
The flow is slightly unusual and worth knowing about, because it explains something you may notice on screen.
- You pick a type on the first sign-up screen and select Continue.
- Your choice is held locally while you fill in your email and password — the account does not exist yet, so there is nowhere on our side to store it.
- On the details screen, the type appears above the heading as ← Individual account · Change. Selecting it takes you back to switch.
- After you verify your email and sign in for the first time, the type is saved to your account.
So there is a short window — after the form, before your first sign-in — where the choice exists only in your browser. If you abandon sign-up midway and come back later, you will be asked again. Nothing is lost.
Changing your account type later
Before your first sign-in, select Change on the sign-up form.
After your first sign-in, the account type is fixed to your profile and is not editable from Settings. If it is wrong, contact support@fuzopay.com before you start identity verification — it is far simpler to correct beforehand.
What the account type changes
| Individual | Business | |
|---|---|---|
| Verification | Government ID and selfie | Company documents plus an owner ID check |
| Typical time | Minutes | Longer, because company and ownership documents are reviewed |
| Name on the account | Your first and last name | The company's legal name |
| Editable profile fields | First name, last name, phone number | Legal name, phone number |
| Availability | Open now | Coming soon |
On the Settings page, the Profile details & KYC card reflects this: an individual account shows a full name built from your first and last name, while a business account shows the registered legal name.
Note. Whichever type you hold, your profile details can only be edited while onboarding has not been submitted. Once identity verification starts, verified details are locked. See Update your profile details.
